China Introduces Unilateral Visa-Free Policy for Citizens of Select Countries

Promoting Openness and International Mobility

Visa-Free Entry for France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia

In a significant move to enhance openness and foster international mobility, China has implemented a unilateral visa-free policy for citizens of six countries: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia. This policy aims to facilitate exchanges between Chinese nationals and those from these countries.

Specifics of the Policy

Effective from December 1, 2023, citizens of these countries holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter China for a period of up to 15 days without the need for a visa. The visa-free entry is valid for stays related to tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.

Implementation and Duration

For citizens of Italy, the visa-free policy will be implemented from December 1, 2023, and will expire on November 30, 2024. This specific timeframe is intended to enhance bilateral cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Italy.

Trial Period and Future Considerations

The visa-free policy for the other five countries (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia) will be implemented for a trial period of one year. The Chinese government will evaluate the effectiveness of this policy and consider extending it or expanding it to other countries in the future.

Benefits of the Policy

The unilateral visa-free policy is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and cultural exchanges between China and these countries. It aligns with China's commitment to deepening its integration with the global community and promoting mutual understanding.
