China's Ambitious Nuclear Expansion Plan
Growing Demand for Energy
China's insatiable demand for energy continues to drive its nuclear power ambitions. The country currently operates 38 nuclear power reactors and has 19 more under construction, making it the fastest-growing nuclear power generator in the world.
Target Set
The National Energy Administration plans to significantly increase China's nuclear capacity target to 120-150 gigawatts by 2030. This represents a substantial increase from the current target of 70 gigawatts by 2025.
New Reactors
To achieve this ambitious goal, China aims to install between six and eight new nuclear reactors annually. This aggressive expansion plan will further solidify China's position as a global leader in nuclear energy.
Government Support
Chinese President Xi Jinping's government firmly supports the nuclear power expansion program. Xi believes nuclear energy is crucial for ensuring China's energy security and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
